Our Journey
We are a company started by two hardware engineers who came back from the USA in 2018, not to build another product, but to fix what's on our family's plate.
Based on our own research, we concluded that 85% of families in India are suffering from BP, Sugar, Thyroid or PCOD problems, our own family included. After 1.5 years of research, we found that the food we eat today is one of the main culprits. So we came back to India in 2018 and started Aahvaanam Agro Farms.
Milk and its byproducts are among the most nutritious foods in India, but 68% of milk here is adulterated. Six months of research led us to an even bigger problem: animal feed is 50–100 times more adulterated than human food. So that's where we chose to start.
The Timeline
Research, then real buffaloes
After visiting 150 dairy farms across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Punjab and Oregon (USA), we realised theory wasn't enough. We bought 7 buffaloes from Haryana and spent 10 months testing feed combinations before finalising our first formula.
An 800 sq. ft. plant, and the first bag
We began producing feed for our own animals from a small 800 sq. ft. plant. The first 50kg bag went to a neighbouring farmer, whose 2 buffaloes gave 1-1.5 litres more milk per milking. That feedback is the reason we kept going.
A new factory, and a setback
We completed construction of our new factory, capable of 1 tonne of production every 1.5 hours. Soon after, a major accident to one of the founders forced us to slow our growth plans.
A personal loss
One of our founders lost his father, and once again we had to pause our growth plans. Our timelines moved, but our focus never did.
Gold and Diamond formulas
Drawing on 8 years of experience and feedback from farmers across 13 villages, we developed two new formulas. Gold has been field tested with exceptional results; Diamond, built for heavy yielders, is currently in ICRISAT lab testing.
Our growth plans got delayed, but our focus and determination never wavered.
Beyond the Feed Plant
Solving one problem kept leading us to the next.
Our Own Oil Expeller Plant
De-oiled cake is a key ingredient in our feed, but we weren't happy with the quality and extraction methods available in the market. So we started our own wood oil expeller plant, and now bring that same seed-to-oil control to cold-pressed cooking oils for your kitchen.
Fresh-Milled Flours
Wheat, Jowar, Finger Millet and Pearl Millet are raw materials we already use in our feed plant. By customer demand, we now mill and distribute their flours too: never stocked, never preserved, only ground once your order comes in.
